At Škatlica, we don’t tell young people to think “outside the box” — we build our own box.
A space where everyone is enough as they are, where we can learn to live with ourselves before striving to become someone else’s idea of success.
Škatlica is a community center that offers young people a safe, creative, and inclusive environment. We encourage learning through practice, sustainable living, and collaboration — repairing rather than discarding, creating rather than consuming, and building connections based on respect and shared experiences, empowering young people to become independent, courageous, wholesome members of their (our) communities.
Through our projects, we combine youth work, equestrian activities, and sustainability education. From equine-assisted learning workshops to community actions like tree planting, cultural events, or good practice visits, we give young people — especially those from vulnerable groups — the chance to develop life skills, strengthen their wellbeing, and feel part of a supportive community.
We also work to professionalize youth and equestrian work in Slovenia by creating networks, training programs, and resources for practitioners. By sharing knowledge, promoting fair and ethical practices, and involving young people directly in shaping activities, Škatlica aims to build a model of rural development that is inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in community values.
Our mission
Our aim is to establish a safe platform – a ‘playground’ or sanctuary – for experimenting, development and implementation of ideas on positive change in individuals and local environments.
Volunteering connects individuals with others and gives them the feeling of being part of something bigger; together we dream of community.
By empowering individuals as drivers of lasting change with the help of horses, we contribute to a more tolerant, inclusive, compassionate, and cooperative society.
